July - August Progress Report

Hold on to your hats, this one's a good'un!

We're starting off with a new translation announcement, so I'll let the project lead, cccmar, take it away!

[GBC] Hunter x Hunter: Forbidden Treasure

Hunter x Hunter: Kindan no Hihou (translated roughly as Hunter x Hunter: The Forbidden Treasure) is an action-adventure role-playing video game released for the handheld console Game Boy Color in 2001. It's one of 8 HxH games released in 2000/2001, and one of two GBC games in the franchise (the other one being the infamous Hunter no Keifu/Hunter's Genealogy, a game considered to be a "legendary kusoge/crappy game" in Japan).

So, what is this game? It's an action RPG of sorts, though I guess nowadays it'd be classified as a "Metroidvania". It features a large, interconnected world, equipment to find/purchase, and multiple skills to learn (upon leveling up - max level being level 50), as well as 4 playable characters - Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio, with their own skills/weapon types.

I've wanted to work on this game because it has an original (if rather simple) story that isn't based on any of the HxH arcs directly, and a neat ambience throughout; I'm also a big fan of the genre it belongs to, so one more retro game of this kind is quite nice in my book. It's also not a huge game, the last playthrough took me around 5-6 hours, with finding all of the treasures and doing most side stuff that this game offers. The translation is completed as far as the script goes, but there's still a good deal of work regarding the menus and such. Overall, it's a fun romp, but it requires the knowledge of Japanese to be able to know where to go/what to do at a given point in the story.

[NDS] Kimi no Yusha

Hey hey, everyone! It's Haribeau! It's been exactly four years since I provided my last update and promptly vanished into the ether. With that said, I can now confirm that I have returned to finish what I started with Kimi no Yusha.

Since our last update on this project, we have addressed several issues including a crash-inducing bug. Regarding the translation, I believe I had stopped near the end of chapter 3 all those years ago and am happy to announce that the remainder of chapter 3 and all of chapter 4 have now been translated.

This is one of our larger ongoing projects, so expect progress to be slow. However, I am confident that it will be consistent and kept to the same high standards to which I have always held myself.

[NDS] Death Note: Successors to L

Which means it's back to me, Phantom, to cover the remaining projects. I'm excited to say there's also good news for Death Note fans, as Successors to L is now in the final stages! We don't have a target release date in mind yet, but we're working away and hope to have the patch with you in the not so distant future!

[PS2] Space Fishermen

It's said that only 5% of the ocean has been explored in detail. Of the fish species we know of, scientists traditionally divide them into three categories: Agnatha (jawless), Chondrichthyes (cartilaginous), and Osteichthyes (bony). Evidently, none of them thought to boot up Space Fishermen, which has a detailed chart of (space) fish relations!

As there were no textless versions of the images, SONICMAN69 and Syko worked together to recreate the graphics from the ground up using the game's manual as a reference point. As you can see, the results are reel-y good!

[PS2] Fullmetal Alchemist 3: The Girl Who Succeeds God

Lastly, we'd like to thank everyone for giving our latest patch release a warm reception! We have been enjoying reading all of your comments and catching up with various streams.

We've now updated the patch to version 1.1, which adds subtitles to a small section of voiced dialogue that occurs when the timed section of the boss fight in Chapter 9 is failed. You can grab the update on the patch page!

If you originally patched the game using the online patcher, please also update, as it was discovered that using the online patcher caused the game to crash during an FMV. Instructions on how to patch the game manually can be found in the Setup Guide.
